one of the most thought-provoking monologues ever

@ItIsCookies66 That's what made me come here and watch the scene again.

from imdb: During Ellen Burstyn's impassioned monologue about how it feels to be old, cinematographer Matthew Libatique accidentally let the camera drift off-target. When director Darren Aronofsky called "cut" and confronted him about it, he realized the reason Libatique had let the camera drift was because he had been crying during the take and fogged up the camera's eyepiece. This was the take used in the final print.

@gdwme That's exactly right! Requiem didn't get noticed until nearly a year after it's release. The positive outcome was it did eventually get her noticed and most others thoght she deserved the Oscar. The end result was her career revitalized again and she started getting noticed. Much like Mickey Rourke after his role in The Wrestler (also another Aronofsky brilliant film).

Jared Leto's scene in this is quite powerful and equally emotional. His pain overwhelms all at once and cannot be ignored; and nothing can be done except cry uncontrolably. Been there, done that!

Ellen was robbed of an oscar! How can Julia Roberts get an oscar, in any case, and especially when she was up against ellen for this perfromance? I think Ellen should have definitely got it for Requiem for A Dream. However, i dont think she should have gotten it for Alice Doesnt Live Here Anymore in 1974. It should have gone to Gena Rowlands for A Woman Under the Influence

I watched this monologue, and when I finished crying, I called my parents to see how they're doing and said I love them.
