Helpful Tut, but

".... so I'm opening Thesis, and you can see it's ot quite the same. Um, I'm opening thesis, selecting Custom File Editor, selecting custom.css and clicking edit. Then I paste the copied code, then I make the changes..."

I've been through this, takes ages to find your way through by trial and error. The user guide doesn't help much, does it?
