This is Part I of a 4-part series "Quotes and Graphite Drawings" by visual artist Eugene James Martin. The drawings date from 1977 and 1978; the quotes from the mid-1970's. Many of the quotes and all of the original drawings that accompanied the quotes Eugene Martin organized in a special volume were accidentally lost in Washington D.C. in the early 1980's when someone borrowed the chapbook and misplaced it. Works of art created in Washington D.C., filmed in Lafayette, Louisiana (LA). Video clip montage by S. Fredericq. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugene_J._Martin

Oh, make it happen today, daddy. Ah, a husband!
One must be out there waiting for me. Soon it will
happen that in exchange for forsaking my coffee, I'll
have a boyfriend. Maybe even before bedtime I will
get a gallant new suitor!

Bach's Coffee Cantata's text is secular. The same
music was also used for the religious version. It is
indeed one of the most glorious pieces ever created,
just as these drawings by Martin are. As much as I
admire the music, I completely ignore the insipid
subject, the new coffee fad! Just as one appreciates
the music for the joy it brings, so can one appreciate
Martin's imagery for what is or isn't necessarily
apparent. In this sense, music and imagery may
complement one another beautifully.
