The Amish movement was founded in Europe by Jacob Amman (1644 -1720) from whom their name is derived. The beliefs and practices of the Amish are based on the writings of the founder of the Mennonite faith, Menno Simons (1496-1561).
Over the years, there have been numerous divisions among the Amish churches. The 'Old Order' Amish - an ultra-conservative faction that withdrew from fellowship with the wider body of Amish Mennonites in the 1860s - are those that have most emphasized traditional practices and beliefs.
The Old Order Amish and Mennonites are also known as the "Plain People" because they wear plain clothing styles.
The Amish are holding to slightly different traditions and their own interpretations of the Bible. They are best known for their simple living, plain dress and their resistance to the adoption of many modern conveniences. Amish people trace their heritage back hundreds of years and still live and work much as their forefathers did.

  • reminds me a russian village( using horses when they plow, work in the huge gardens by hands, prepare hey. Its a hard way of living but you can be happy. the produce is fresh and natural. during summer break all the parents send the kids to the villages to stay at grandparents ( if they live in the countryside) . the best time of the year, cause you make bonfires everyday, go fishing, cooking on an open fire, go to the river, hanging out with friends ,help the grandparents. how i miss that time

  • hard workers.

  • im brad and this is afencive tous armish people

  • @TheProgSound Usually in churches that allow some electricity, it's from a generator, not a neighbor. The point is to be *off grid*. For some the phone rule is that it's in a phone booth outside the house, not in the kitchen. They can't own/drive cars because it'd make it too easy to use frivolously and break up communities (some churches allowed it, but they fell apart after), but paying for a ride to the Emergency Room is another story.

  • @TheProgSound some Amish have.....*gasp*... showers! You're thinking of the stuff you learned in middle school about pioneers.

  • happy to be athiest

  • u knw wht is funny my last name is ammann and for some reason people spell it amman idk why but it is really ammann my last name is ammann and my familly is from europe i think switzerland/germany and i guess he is my great great something grandpa but im not amish lol

  • Plain idiots.

  • Finally AND the biggest reason they skeeve me out: They all use the same bath water...father (the dirtiest) goes first...then kids..then mom. So mom get to wash in all that filth. GRRRRROSSSS. They arent all cute like you see on tv!

  • Also... I was in a traffic class and one amish kid was busted for drunk carraige riding and blasting out the radio....yep the radio. He used it attached it a car battery. A lot of the amish chicks leave their hooker clothes in a barn and sneek out and change clothes. The are also the biggest asshat BYBer operating most of the puppy mills in HORRID conditions.

  • I cant stand the Amish that live a double standard life. The will use power tools as long as the english plug it in, they will be driven around by cars as long as the english do the driving...they will use a phone as long as the english hold it and dial it for them...they will even use an electric fridge as long as its plugged into an english neighbors electricity.

  • The title is a bit of a misnomer since there are Plain People who are not Amish or Old Order. But nice video!
