In 1964, up-and-coming star Barbra Streisand signed a contract with CBS to film five television specials by 1975. "My Name is Barbra" is the glorious first of these, filmed in nostalgic black-and-white. Enjoy these glimpses of her genial work.

This song is largely considered one of the most integral jazz standards of all time - and frankly, this performance proves it! The music was composed by Sigmund Romberg and features lyrics by the ever-prominent Oscar Hammerstein II for the Broadway show "The New Moon," where the song was introduced by Evelyn Herbert and Robert Misson in 1928.

The original broadcast and VHS release of "My Name is Barbra" feature an alternate take halfway through the song, where Barbra and the orchestra actually become separated by a beat or two (the look on her face when that happens is explosive, to put it lightly!) and it is noticeable, musically. Anyhoo, I am glad that take was replaced with this one on the DVD release, because it is simply so much more beautiful!

  • I LOVE YOU BARBRA!!!!!!!

  • This is the Streisand I love. All she needs, all she has ever needed, was a mic and a swinging band behind her. The elaborate orchestrations and sets that she's takes on her rare tours -- don't need 'em. Just a swinging band and barb!

  • god i envy her..

  • I could sit here and watch and listen All Day LONG!!! But, then I'll never get any work done!! But, it would still be time well spent, at that! She's Awesome!!! I've known this for, oh, 34 years!!

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!! LOVE IT !!!!
