  • Either brainwashed ppl or votebots. There's no way this video should be rated that low. In less than 5 mins, it was filled with some really profound bits of information.

  • When I said "So, comprehensive compulsory religious education for all kids!" what I mean to say is "comprehensive compulsory education in ALL major religions for all kids!" I do not mean to imply that religious "beliefs" should be imposed; I mean to agree with Dennett, that the facts, histories, basic tenants (without value judgments) of ALL major religions should be taught to all kids: just the facts. It would not be a violation of Separation of Church and State by the teaching of raw facts!

  • "And today, after mass, we all log in and vote down this blasphemous old antichrist, wishing him death, in the name of our loving god, obviously!"

  • stop teaching religion there are millions of religions and they are all a waste of time , religion is too much hate and fear , total wast of time

  • And they have to be FACTUAL and Non-Bias in their teaching of the other religions, that's the key. No good Home-school'd kids getting taught by already bias religious parents, defeats the whole purpose to start with. The children have to make up their OWN mind where they stand, not be forced by either their parents, peers or country they live in.

  • I like a lot of what Daniel Dennett has to say but I think he is being a little optimistic in proposing a that teaching all children comparative religion necessarily broadens their view. The assumptions here are:

    learning requires teaching,

    the contexts can be uniform,

    educators can refrain from bias

and that children have been attained a degree of discernment and critical reason.

    Thanks for uploading these.

  • not sure who this guy is, but he sounds like he knows what he's talking about...with a respectful authority :3

  • dennett's idea of teaching a mandatory world religion class sounds good on paper but i'm not so sure things would go so smoothly

  • The stuff this guy says is great. Why all the negative votes?

  • I think Dennett is the most erudite of the 4 horseman... he can cut fallacy to ribbons and still come off as though he were just a wise old uncle...

  • You are correct that Statism is also overrated, perhaps we can work together to help it wither away.

You are wrong about children belonging to parents though. In the same way that "the number one reason a parent should not circumcise a baby is because it is not their dick" so too is it that the number one reason a parent should not force their beliefs on children in their care is because it is a rape of these kids minds.

So, comprehensive compulsory religious education for all kids!
