I watch this video quite often because I have the Supposedtobes quite often. I was supposed to be a genius. I was supposed to be a golden child. This video reminds me that I can't fix things that don't exist, including the futures that were mapped out for me. I'm done worrying over silly fantasies and nonexistent maps. It's time to start living.

I get really spaced out when I watch too many of these in a row, in a good way

Maybe it's something about confusing yesterdays with tomorrows. Telling myself I was supposed to find a job yesterday and beating myself up about it to the point where I can't move. There are some supposedtobes that really need fixing, but there is no shop for those damn broken yesterdays. Right? Or should I take a responsibility for this bag of accusations and stop laughing at that me on the other side of the counter?
(you tube was supposed to give me enough room to finish that thought!)

dear ze,
i have an ongoing case of the supposedtobes and every day i walk into my own little pawnshop, empty a bag of supposedtobes and challenge myself to fix them and even on those todays when I realize how absurd that is, I still find myself on both sides of the counter, one part of me still imagining that the right shop might fix them.

The pawnshop metaphor gave me a framework to think about a very difficult feeling, and amazingly, it was a comforting framework. One that says broken days are not your fault, and they are not moving backwards, they never predict what tomorrow will be like. All you can do is try, and see what happens.
Ze is amazing at this art form. These videos make me feel less alone, comforted by knowing I'm not crazy or broken for the thoughts and feelings that I have.
