Marjoe is a 1972 American documentary film produced and directed by Howard Smith and Sarah Kernochan about the life of evangelist Marjoe Gortner.

Marjoe was a precocious child preacher with extraordinary talents, who was immensely popular in the American South. His parents earned large sums of money off him up until the point he outgrew his novelty. Marjoe rejoined the ministry as a young adult solely as a means of earning a living, and not as a believer; he spent the next several years using his fame and status as an evangelist to defraud a small fortune out of individuals both through tent revivals and televangelism.

Eventually, Gortner suffered a crisis of conscience and decided to renounce his ways, offering the documentary film crew unrestricted access to him during his final revival tour, repeatedly admitting on camera that he was a con-artist and revealing the tactics used by himself and other evangelists to swindle money from people.

  • Such an amazing movie. Nothing has changed since 1972, unfortunately.

  • “4.6 billion years ago earth cooled down and formed a rocky crust.”

    Holt Earth Science – 1994, p. 280

“Oceans formed as it rained on the rocks for millions of years …”

    Holt Earth Science, 1989, p. 502

“… swirling in the waters of the oceans is a bubbling broth of complex chemicals. … progress from a complex chemical soup to a living organism is very slow.”

But, to say that "we evolved from a rock" --whether you deny evolution or not--is to display, at best, a gross misunderstanding of the theory.

We certainly have plausible, evidence backed hypotheses about how life could have started.

It's only honest to recognize the limitations of our current understanding, which is precisely how we build upon what we currently know. We stand on the shoulders or our predecessors.

I suggest you look up the experiments of Dr. Craig Venter.

  • @DlightingGuy

But anyway, you need to educate yourself a little bit before we continue a conversation. You need to look up many scientific terms and you need some basic background scientific education.

Abiogenesis and Evolution are different things, and not knowing "what started it all" is no excuse at all to use your caricatures and blatant misrepresentations to dismiss the mounds of evidence supporting biological evolution. You are either ignorant or insidious, which one is it?

  • @DlightingGuy

Oh boo hoo you're so sensitive.

Hmm...seems something gave you the impression that I give a shit about the opinion of ignoramuses like you. Besides, I'm doing you a favor by calling out that you're using the debate tactics of a douche. Maybe you will continue using the same tired, repetitive arguments in the future, but at least I informed you that you're gonna look like a douche doing it, so you'e without excuse.

  • @Titus420ful You have to use name calling to support your position? I'm hope all your friends are impressed, but it greatly diminished you in my opinion. Let's leave the insults and go to the argument.. This was no straw man argument that I was making.. But correct me if I'm wrong. I'm don't think I'm as dogmatic as you think. You yourself admitted you believe we evolved from "organic chemistry". Tell me where did the primordial soup come from?

  • @DlightingGuy

Hmm...I've never heard the theory that says we evolved from a rock. I think you're confused.

Oh, wait. I get it. You're purposely misrepresenting the theory of biological evolution, creating a caricature-like straw-man so as to insinuate that the theory of biological evolution is some sort of faith-based religion rather than the tried, tested, and true hard science that our entire understanding of genetics and life is based on.

Never seen that one before, how clever...

    douche

  • @Titus420ful Just saying.....

  • @Titus420ful

I definitely don't have as much faith as you. It's to much for me to believe we evolved from a rock.

  • That kid @58:27 is the only atheist in the room :-))

(Apart from the preacher that is) ;-)
