Brand new from SONY at CES 2012 is the MirrorLink technology that syncs a users in-dash car stereo to their mobile phone. In the demo unit that Sony had at CES, a Samsung Galaxy S II was paired to the MirrorLink compatible unit. The two screens are a mirror image of each other and the user can use the car stereo or the phone to control the MirrorLink interface. The whole interface is easy to use and even easier learning how to use it.

MirrorLink works with Android and Nokia Symbian phones. The iPhone, however has a feature called "Passenger App Control." This feature allows "mirroring" of video from the iPhone and some app control.

I asked them specifically about this at the show and their answer was disappointing :( They do not have anything at the show about it and they didn't have any real plans for it. It could just be that they are trying to keep the project silenced to the public until release... or... they abandoned the project. We are hoping that they will have a working unit ready for production next year at CES.

The reason most companies dropped Blu Ray in car is because you can just stream your video using your phone now. Why bother with disks?
