Part 3 of 3: This is the April 26, 1989 broadcast of ET, reporting on the death of Lucille Ball. This is the only time I'm aware of that they have devoted their entire broadcast to the passing of a celebrity. This segment includes condolences from celebrities and fans, footage of her last television appearance, and a montage of clips from "I Love Lucy," "The Lucy Show," "Here's Lucy" and other film and television appearances.

  • I remember this day. I dressed Mary Hart and John Tesh in those days on ET. Thanks for posting this. It brings back so many memories.

  • @DyneVan , thanks for your comment. If you have any memories you'd like to share about that day and doing this show, please do.

  • thanks for posting this i never saw it before ..im 14 and well obviously i didnt live through the lucy period but god do i love her. and now that shes gone, even i feel as if i lost my best friend

  • Thank you for your comment, Michelle. It's so nice to see someone your age who appreciates Lucy so much. It's a testament to how timeless her comedy is. It keeps going from generation to generation. I wonder if she could have ever imagined that she would still be gaining new fans long after her death, and from among people who were not even born during her lifetime. It's truly amazing.

  • Lol I was watching this and at 3:30 I switched to another tab and then I hear a familiar voice that I love! Mary Tyler Moore! Hahaha.. I love both of them!

  • Im 14 and I love watching I Love Lucy and this really made me cry, it's just hard to believe that someone who brought so much joy died at such an early age. I wish some people could live forever.

  • @Vehement00 , Michael Jackson's death was shocking because it was so unexpected -- he wasn't even sick and he was about to go on tour -- and he was so young, and there was all kinds of drama about how he died, questions about whether he murdered, etc. Lucy had been in the hospital for a week with serious heart problems (had gone through open-heart surgery) and had had a stroke the year before, and was almost 78. Her death was only shocking in the sense that she'd been a presence for so long.

  • 7:05 Either the toast magically popped out of thin air or somebody is behind Desi tossing the toast to Lucille.

  • @henry12397 Michael Jackson's passing was just as big, if not, bigger. Lucy touched our lives (mostly in US and a few other regions), but Michael's passing was a shockwave across the globe.

  • I miss Lucy

  • i so remember the day she passed away as a day that everyone felt a deep sorrow and the news about her passing was everywhere in the media.....in fact I said, it was like the biggest passing of a celebrity since John Kennedy who of course was a politician........everyone experienced the loss of her that day.......moumental, would be putting it mildly......to this day in June of 2011, has there ever been a day similar to the passing of Lucille Ball.................

  • I was 11 when she died...and I remember my mom crying. She's always going to be remembered as a true star!
