  • Brilliant! can you imagine living your dream? I did. I sang with this band 4 years and it was the greatest time of my life. There will never be anything like it. Nor will there ever be a trumpet player with as much as this man had t offer. April Ames. Harry, I miss you and thanks.

  • Where Artie Shaw once had to convince Billie Holiday to use the service elevator of the hotel where they were performing because blacks werent allowed in the regular elevators, James had his whole band to pack up when told a hotel didnt have a room for one black bandmate. The hotel gave in.

  • This was from "The All Time Hits" - recorded at WGN-tv Chicago - studio 3 - in aabout '62 or '63. SO GOOD!

  • Is This Song from Harry James or Benny Goodmann, I'm nor sure :P

  • the off-beats sound great!

  • this man is for me like daily bread! I'm happy that he was living on this world and that he could give to us these famous songs! I love trumpet, i love Harry, I love my grandfather (he was the best trumpet man in Czech Republic, now he has swing orchestra of Vaclav Hlavac). I have played on trumpet for 13 years and I hope, that i will be good at least my grandfather, but this man is god for me! As the same like Ferguson:)

  • Harry James was, by all means, the best jazz and pop trumpet player. It's not for free that Miles Davis considered him "the best" of all times. Clifford Brows was a idol for James, and for me too. But Clifford did't had the bold tone of HJ. You can consider Maynard Fergunson, Arturo Sandoval, Al Hirt, Rafael Mendes, the fantastic be-bop players and all the bad trumpet cats, but you'll miss something that only HJ can give to you... Thanks God for have given a existence to him!

  • Wow. Five trumpets including Harry and Johnny Audino. Just sick.

  • Buddy Rich is great but I prefer Gene Krupa as always!

  • I was in a band that traded sets with Harry at Harrah's in Reno back in 1965 or '66 and what a treat to listen to this band every night. Harry loved his Keno and actually hit the $25,000 prize while we were there. His comment: "I think I'm close to breaking even now." He was a very cool guy. Very real.

  • Most brilliant trumpet tone, together with Louis and Charlie Shavers. I wish I had those chops just for a few minutes...

  • In the 70's before Harry passed, he recorded three albums, the first of which was titled The King James Version. I feel it is the best big band recording ever done. One stereo mic over the band, direct to the master cutting machine via a 600' cable. No mixing, no amplification. One take per side. Sheffield records.
