Colchester is the UK's oldest record town and is an important interchange on the Great Eastern Main Line. It is where the Sunshine Coast Line to Clacton and Walton-On-The-Naze branches off and also the branch to Colchester Town. The station has its Power Signal Box which controls the GEML signalling between Marks Tey and Norwich and its depot which houses some Class 321's and Class 360's between the peak hours plus it stables one of the Class 90 hauled sets and a Turbostar. In total the station has 6 platforms but it has a unique feature. Platform's 4 and 3 are combined to create one of the longest platforms in the UK.
During the off peak on a weekday the station has 13 trains an hour, this comprises of,
5 trains per hour to Liverpool St
2 trains per hour to Norwich
2 trains per hour to Colchester Town
1 train per hour to Walton-On-The-Naze
1 train per hour to Clacton-On-Sea
1 train per hour to Harwich Town
1 train per hour to Lowestoft/Peterborough
When I visited I could only film a small amount of trains due to my camera's battery getting low but I managed to get a HELLFIRE Turbostar departure on full power. I hope you find the information on Colchester station useful and enjoy this video.
