hi,heres my diy ground anchor build, after seeing the 100 pound price tag for one i decided to make my own,and it weighs in a lot lighter than the usual 15 kgs,,mine is just over 7 kgs,by using light box, with bracing and butt welding to bring the strength back up...

  • Well done! Do you have a movie where you tested your ground anchor?

  • @quadsontour

    hi mate,thanks,

no sorry i never got any video of us using it,and ive sold it on now as im using the heavy duty version of it.

    atb,wayne.

  • first of all buy a better welder , second you need a trailer to haul that thing around, i built one that is 30 lbs and is only 1 foot tall and 1 foot wide works great easy to remove.

  • @akaeldin

LOL first of all ive been a welder, fabricator and mechanic for 25 years now and i know if a welder works and suits the jobs im using it for..second no trailer needed here i have a propper offroader, she carries it around on the front no probs,,no wanna be plastic covered light weights here, the ground anchor you built sounds cool, you got any pics etc?

    cheers...

  • @uksniper1 Yeah, I don't know what he is talking about, since the welds look like they have good penetration to me! I have been a fabricator and mechanic about a long as you, and your job looks good to me! Plus, I am now an engineer and I would trust this for a light-duty vehicle! I also like the way you reinforced the hole for the clevis. Yes, I could have mathematically designed one that would be better on paper, but would it work better in the real-world; probably not.

hi mate,,hey thanks for the comments, and kind words too..

regarding training,,,i spent 4 years in a garage doing full body restorations on classic cars,,including lead filling etc,

2 years at collage for the welding, and mechanical studies,

    3 years fabricating/welding high pressure gas/air tanks,

1 year at walford collage for agricultural machinery,

and of course all the race/rally cars ive built for people, including race motorcycles(i used to race too),

    and now offroaders..

  • @uksniper1

including designing an building my v8 full expo rangerover,of which i fabricated roof-rack,suspension mods, bumpers, exhaust system, engine mods etc, lighting, electrics,,everything was done by me,,no garages, dealers in any part of it...

cheers again mate,,take care,,and all the very best....wayne.

If you are a welder what amps where you running and what type of electrodes cause the welds look pretty cold and a bit of cold roll (on the plate of the anchor anyway). Looks good anyway.

  • I looked at it a little closer and your angles look great. In the engineering world we love to use triangles to reinforce, and your land anchor had so many -- and in the right places -- it would be super strong versus the size. I know you said that you were a fabricator, but do you have any formal engineering training?

  • @uksniper1

yours, the detachable shovel sounds cool..i look forward to seeing it soon,,all the best,,wayne..
