  • Actually, profesional letterers use serifs only if the letter is at the beginning of a sentence. Just pick any "profesional" comic and take a look. The reason is because of the use of upper case letters which don't make it always easy to understand where a sentece begins or ends. For the same reason it is usual to use a "!" instead of a "." at the end of a sentence. Sorry for my bad english!
