Here is an original, unrestored, 1957 Chevrolet Cameo Carrier. According to Chevrolet, 2,157 were built that year. Grandpa bought it used in 1970, and it has been in the family since then. Since he passed in '06 my father has maintained it and driven it monthly. It came with the 283 c.i. V-8, 4-speed hydramatic transmission (recently overhauled), power brakes and power steering. Bolt-on air conditioning was added, along with seatbelts, nothing more. See my Dad and I take it for a spin.
Hi. The 283 V8 was not available on light trucks untill 1958. If the motor is original, then it would be a 265 ci. The air filter is late model, along w/ the alternator. To have PWR steering, you would need the correct generator w/ pump attached to it. Also the control valve is located outside the engine compartment, behind the left tire.. Looks like someone did an engine swap. 265's didn't have any tapped holes in the block to bolt on AC, or PWR steering pump. Non-original motor. Sorry.
