You guys are carrying on this conversation about the "real" reality, right? Not just the reality as our senses make it?

There is observer bias involved with making video.

I've watched this video numerous times. Every time I've watched it, I thought to myself, what is reality. Although I've never taken any philosophy courses, I ask myself "Am I the only existant? " Is everything I experience (or think I'mexperincing) simply for my pleasure? Am I it? I think before you tackle the question of if YouTube respondants are reproducing reality, one must first answer "Is reality real?"

Well something I didn't say here is that reality is what resists any attempts to reinterpret it, which just imposes itself on our experience e.g. when we put our hand in fire it will burn it. The fire is real, there's no way around that. Of course science goes further and constructs theories about WHY it does that, involving ideas which are NOT part of reality since they may be superseded as scientific theories are from time to time.

cropperb you crop up everywhere! But to answer your question: as a materialist I don't believe in any non-material, spiritual reality. Which does not mean that ideas are unimportant; they are events in our brain which have a HUGE impact on our behaviour.

We take the reality and change it. We can not produce reality because matter can neither be made nor destroyed only transfomred. Imagination is what allows us to produce our own reality in a sense, but one that is not real at all.

You're right, and that's well put; although of course what we produce with our imagination - ideas, works of art, scientific theories etc etc, then has an effect on how we act, thus on reality.

Hi Peter. I like your video, but the sound is too scratchy... I think we are on the same page here, but would you not agree that Nothing is "a something"?
Also I agree that reality is very much a process. The real point to be made here is that Thepoams question implies that we definitely are producing reality outside of Youtube... Im not so sure.

Of course we're not producing reality ex nihilo, but we are rearranging the structure of reality, both in YouTube and outside of it. Is nothing a something? It depends what you mean: empty space, intellectual negation, zero quantity etc.
