Thanks so much to Middleton Place for making this available to so many of us through its on line newsletter. What a fabulous recollection, even saw my first house in Charleston, 75 Church Street. Of course, the film was a product of its time and did not tell the whole story but it was beautiful to see Charleston as it was in the 30's. Judy

Fascinating... very little has changed... architecturally that's a good thing... culturally, not so good a thing.

Thanks dearest cousin, Alice Marie (Lissie) Seel for sending me the link to a treasure of memories. I was born in 1948, lived the poorer side of life, but that didn't stop us enjoying all the wondrous sights, sounds, and history of Charleston. It's been #1 as the most hospitable place to visit; especially in the month of April when everything is in full bloom.
I love my dear Charleston and want to live there once again in my remaining days on earth. I now live in another beautiful place, Utah.

Great video of the best city in the USA. Only wish tere was some Gullah speaker reciting the Gullah Poem GAWD FIN'UM.

I am Charleston born and Charleston bred and when I die I will be Charleston dead!
I enjoyed this tour even though I see it all the time, I never get tired of my Charleston.
I just wish the man speaking had had a Charleston accent.
Charleston has it's own flavor of the Southern accent and it is NOT anything like the Up-State or other Southern cities and states. It is more refined and elegant and not so nasal. One ought to visit Charleston in the Spring, Fall or even Winter.

OK, some to the history might not be totally correct but an interesting view of how Charleston was marketed in 1934.
"everywhere you have 'negroes' you have music".....some would say....art. An incredible film!
