  • You couldn't possibly ban or punish these players because a great deal of them just make a new account when banned. Also, the very fact that they cheat in the firstplace shows that their interest isn't being among the elite, just getting to the maxed rank. Halo 3's ultimate flaw was its inability to catch such behavior in the ranking ladder and its requiring hitting the max rank to 100%. These players want 100% and they don't CARE about you or challenge. Halo 3 did this to itself.

  • @EliteSnowPirate

If Microsoft banned these peoples consoles then it would be a lot more hassle for the cheaters then just making a new account. My guess is some of them wouldn't bother and the majority who bothered to buy a new Xbox wouldn't make the mistake of cheating again because they know it will cost them a lot of money.

and what do u mean by "Halo 3 did this to itself"?

Bungie did this to Halo 3 by not using the ban-hammer effectively even though they often threatened they would.

  • Halo 3 is both pretty hardcore and pretty casual. It was easy to pick up, hard to master. It also had an experience system tied to its hardcore ranking. This means casual players who feel the need to complete it will always feel compelled to cheat when lined up against more serious players who dedicate a lot of effort to learning the game. Bungie was sparing with the banhammer, yes, but the choice to require hardcore ranking for total completion is what drives players to do this.

  • @EliteSnowPirate

wait...so your saying, all the people deciding to take the game seriously and play competitively to reach a high rank are responsible for the cheaters and ergo responsible for killing the game? By that logic, all competitive sports like golf, football, rugby etc would be destroyed by cheaters. Has this happened? No, because its down to the authorities involved to prevent this. Sorry, your argument makes no sense.

  • @ExposeTheCheats Not at all. It is simply the way the ranking system was employed. The unique thing Halo has as a series is a dedicated hardcore fanbase that is in it FOR the game. There was no need for anything aside from a well kept ladder for competitors to duke it out on. What Halo 3 tried to pull off was mixing a general, casual XP system with its rankings. This is what would tempt a more casual player into just cheating for the sake of finishing up their level. Not the players, it is Halo3

  • @EliteSnowPirate

But a ranking system is a great idea for competitive players like me.

The only things that could make it bad is the developer not enforcing the rules. (and people who feel the need to cheat)

  • Great video Naz, these cheaters need to be punished, big time, also nice points being made here, about the fact that you pay for xbox live and you get cheated, thats not fun at all, these nerds need a kick up the arse and to go and see daylight!!! < Thats my argument haha :D

  • @ExposeTheCheats Ranking system is good for more then just competitive minded players, it is also a great source of entertainment and in some cases learning for any player. I agree with you. And yes, it is sad that Bungie never found a way to change Halo 3 so this didn't happen. Ultimately it would have required something similar to what we saw in Halo: Reach. An XP ranking totally separate from the Ladder ranking, this way players wanting 100% completion but lacking skill need not play ranked.

  • @ExposeTheCheats For one game? Consider the money people this crazed over game completion generate and they are only a problem in games that can't properly defend themselves or games that accidentally encourage this behavior, like Halo 3's ranking did in the end. Halo 3 had a VERY strict ranking system, it was challenging and pretty impressive if it had worked properly. Unfortunately the 'rank 50' being required to max out your players experience rank causes players like this to decide to cheat.

  • @Blastaar7 wow. Things have changed since the days we were running lobbies in this game.

  • ....that would effing explain why everytime i play lone wolf, it feels like i'm fighting 3 people at once. The min i start shooting someone, boom, i got a whole crew of people killing me. I thought I'd use lone wolf to learn the game and get good at the flow. I'm brand new to halo 3. ( I know i'm real late to the party.)
