Strong. Bold. Fearsome. History describes Bucephalus as a huge horse with a black coat: the massive charger of Alexander the Great.

Legend tells how young Alexander gentled the untamed Bucephalus, when no other warrior could ride him. He soothed Bucephalus and turned him towards the sun, so the great horse could no longer see his own shadow, which he feared. From then on, Bucephalus was Alexander the Great's loyal warhorse.

This is my tribute to the most famous actual horse in antiquity.
Created May 2009.

  • The new "I AM THE GREAT HORSE" book trailer has just been uploaded! Click on the video response to watch it!

  • not trying to burst the bubble here but isn't pegasus the most famous?

  • @ForzaAquila

Pegasus is mythical. Bucephalus was a real horse in history, and thus the most famous horse in antiquity. Good point though!

  • Hey all! At last I am working on a book-trailer for "I AM THE GREAT HORSE", by Katherine Roberts.

It's a Bucephalus video, styled as if a movie based on the book were coming out! Message me if you have suggestions for the characters. The video is scheduled to be uploaded at the end of August/ beginning of September.

  • wait... there is a movie? How come I've never heard of it?! I have to watch it! What's it called?

  • @EasySilence64

This footage is from the movie "Alexander", directed by Oliver Stone. It's not *about* Bucephalus, but has scenes with him in it. The film came out several years ago, in 2006 maybe? I forget, but the director's cut is the best version.

  • I know a guy who bread a horse almost like what was described as Bucephalus. He worked with a couple breeders to cross a Fresian with a Percheron.

Essentially they ended up with a really big but agile Fresian. I think they called it a "King Fresian".

  • you have not show the best part of the horse, time when defending the king, because the horse is more faithful than brother........

  • Wow! I love this video! Bucephalus is a wonderful horse he is extraordinary!!

  • Alexander and Leonidas. The great Kings of Greece. The Greatest of the Greatests.

  • Excellent video tribute, thank you so much! :)

  • what kind of loser would dislike this ..

  • Alexander was never blonde... He had tan skin and dark brown(almost back) hair. Looked like a Persian. In the movie they portray him like a nortern European.

  • The last scene is awwwwwww!!!!!!!!

  • FANTÁSTICO

  • I enjoyed your video, JaguarJedi22. Thanks for posting it here.
