BY: Derika Simmons - The Cannon County Lions stepped up with the claws extracted and put the hurt on the West Creek Coyotes in last night’s high school football action.
Coming out with a roar in West Creek’s inaugural game, they pounded down the field early and scored after a quarterback sack.
We might have had a bad start last week, but the Cannon County Lions played a great game. They dominated the West Creek Coyotes with a score of 7-37.
Four touchdowns were thrown by backup quarterback Cooper in the first half to win the game 37-7.
Tailback Daniel Wooden scored with an outstanding 76 yard run early in the fourth quarter.
Cannon County’s coach Joel Schrenk and West Creek’s coach Shane Goodwin had a fine match up since both knew their coaching styles, having worked together last year. Both are new to their positions and just as early as a few months ago, the Coyote’s field was nothing but dirt.
West Creek is a totally brand new school and as was announced at last night’s game, a smoke free facility.
There was also no school sign at the brand new entrance except for a church sign, which gave some Cannon County visitors a grand tour of city of Clarksville and some even toured the grounds of other schools in search of the Coyotes stomping ground.
Tom Tom's didn't have it listed and neither did Mapquest. Directions to last night's game were basically found the old fashioned way: word of mouth.
Both the Coyotes and Lions had an excellent fan support base backing their teams and great crowd participation.
The Lions cheerleaders led the crowd as did the Cannon County High School Band, functioning in the capacity as pep band.
The Cannon County High School band has not only grown in numbers but in performance, giving an excellent half time show that we were all proud to be a part of.
Cannon County kids were seen playing their own football game by the bleachers.
The visitors even had an excellent food stand right by the bleachers.
What a game…the Lions brought home an astonishing victory, plenty of fan support, seemed like there was a little chill in the air with a little light mist on the way home…it’s definitely football time in Tennessee!
Go Lions!
