Notches the piston without a problem. The stock valve is hard but the guides can shatter and cause engine failure. Check out modular head shops website and go to articles. Lots of awesome info u can't find anywhere else.

I had the same knocking noise and mine was big ptv problems. Even degree'd they have no clearance on the intake side. I have 8 notched d.s.s. pistons to prove that. Should of got them notched but from what Hitech said that wouldn't be necessary. So I ordered the short block like that. If you do get these cams I would pick up some Adj. Cam gears or the adj Tfs crank gear bc one cam was 6 degrees out from the other. Awesome cams though. I think a lot of people get lucky with them and the valve no
