I saw Linda Lavin and Jayne Houdyshell. Linda was miscast, Jayne did justice to the number, neither came close to Ethel Shutta who I saw when I was a kid. Her performance will stay in people's memory forever. These two in the revival don't get the number.

I thought it was really bizarre when I saw it in DC. When I saw it on Broadway, Jayne was so much better.

They replaced her with Jayne Houdyshell.. Who was amazing. Good call. Jayne will be nominated for a Tony. She was fantastic. This performance is very odd. Period.

@BWAY62 Sondheim doesn't do the casting. That being said I liked Linda's take however it is not really the way it is meant to be sung. Listen to the lyrics. The character wants to be on Broadway. She wants to make it. She'd do anything. She sounds desperate. This is the total opposite. but, I don't care I love it too!!!
