Lauren Bernhardt shot, wrote, and edited this package for her TV Field Reporting class at American University. The package takes a look at the opening weekend of the National Cherry Blossom Festival, one of the largest festivals in Washington, DC. The first weekend was marked by cool temperatures and a bit of rain, but it didn't stop people from traveling down to the Tidal Basin to take a look at the trees. 3,000 trees were given to the US back in 1912 from Japan as a symbol of peace between the two nations.
