the Australian Open did some new piece on him just recently, and in one part of the article it mentioned how Ivo (having watched Pursuit of Happiness) he had Deja Vu during the part where the main character and his son end up sleeping in a bathroom stall. Early in his career Ivo's sponsor failed to pay for his hotel room and he ended up sleeping in some public restroom because it was freezing outside. crazy where life takes you. if you wanna talk about the ultimate tennis journeymen, Ivo is it.

@TSunce not completely wrong, while he wasnt poor, he was no where near rich, not able to afford to go off to the tennis academies that other junior prospects can. the coach nearby his home would be teaching like 25 other kids at the same time so it was hard for him to get one on one attention, so since he didnt have many others to hit with, he would take four or five balls to the court and just hit serves over and over. this is what i read in tennis magazine

@Anaconda43VR Completely wrong, he came from workers class family from Zagreb that before the Serbian aggression lived much better then usual American workers family, and had whole open approach to any sports including tennis. He played basketball originally but later turned into tennis. He was not poor, only he was kid during war on Croatia when life not so easy even in Zagreb which was far from war.
