When I was looking to buy a Memotron I was surprised at the lack of videos on YouTube actually showing off this beast. For those of you who don't know, the Memotron is a replica Mellotron made by Manikin Electronics in Germany.

Anyway, I bought one and fell in love with it. This is a very simple and quick demo of the unit showing you three sounds, Eminent Strings, Flute and Genesis 8 Choir.

I have played the sounds in a Jarre Style, from Oxygene 1 and Oxygene 2. The Eminent strings are routed through a Boss DD3 pedal and Small Stone.

The Memotron comes with one CD of sounds called Vintage Collection 1, however, I have an extra CD called Vintage Collection 2 which contains 12 more sound sets for the Memotron including two sets of sounds from the Eminent 310U Organ, the signature JMJ sound.

In the mean time have a look at my myspace page for a few more tracks:

  • Is there a way of changing the attack and release of the samples?

  • Yes, the Memotron has very simple Attack and Release settings for each voice. These settings are accessed through a very simple menu and you can change the values between 1 and 100. HOWEVER, as each note is only sampled for 7 to 8 seconds, then long attacks may leave you with no sound, as the sample will be towards the end by the time the attack becomes audible.

  • Hmm this thing is awesome

but I think for the price and since I already use a laptop and studiologic waterfall organ key controller for NI B4 I may just get M-tron

do you have experience with both?

    if so or not

even though I love those lofi ish mellotron sounds from the Beatles and radioheads Ok Computer etc

are there also more real sounds

Like pretty and clear vibrato strings ect

thanks for the help in advanced

  • I don't have any experience with M-Tron, however, I do know that the Memotron can read the M-Tron files. So, if you do every buy a Memotron, you can play all of your favourite M-Tron sounds with it.

  • Dude...this thing is really good...and ridiculously expensive. I converted Euros to Canadian dollars, and it's $3,147! Man, at that price, I'll never have one. Damn, why do the good things always cost so much...

  • I admit that it is expensive. In terms of features, it's the most expensive and limited synth/keyboard I have bought. BUT, I wouldn't swap it for anything. I love it and it sounds fantastic. At the end of the day, if you want a Mellotron, then a Mellotron you will get! You are paying for a bit of modern synth history. The major criticism of this is the price, so maybe eventually Manikin will drop the price...and refund me the difference for advocating their product so much!

  • thanks for these videos! i'm planning to sometime get a memotron myself when i have the money to get (i only just bought a moog litle phatty :P) it's good to see some videos actually showing it properly, i also watched the memotron and moog video, nice use of the delay pedal there. do you happen to know if there are any more powerful choirs and string effects for use in slightly heavier prog music? anyway, nice work, i'll definitely look into getting one now, it looks a brilliant instrument.

  • Good Day WaxApul glad to see someone is putting on some videos of the Memotron. I can't tell you how much I would love to have one of these, yet they run at $2700 American. Well I can enjoy your songs

    best

  • I've got the G-Force M-Tron, and I really like it. It has shutdown on me a few times, but the price makes up for it. Makes me feel like The Beatles when I play it.
