To my eternal shame, I had never given Stockhausen a chance. And then I listened to this.
Sometimes, it's a joy to be proven wrong.
-
infact he was practizing catholic since the age of 18.

Once again, listening to this opera, I am overwhelmed by its splendor !
-
It is a pity this opera is not given in theatres despite the problems it raises as regards performance and players. It is a major work of our time and I am always fascinated when I listen as now to some part of it, not to speak of the other "Days" of the cycle.

As there are so many english writing listeners: The name of this piece is : "Departure of Lucifer" or " "Farewell for Lucifer".

@YUMMYngbird Stockhausen was Roman Catholic with some heavy esoteric influences. He has always been very sensitive to religious matters. His sons have made arrangements with him of the Psalms.
-
Stockhausen's religion is always how the music came to be written and performed;
where his music begins and then ends is his religion;
-
@YUMMYngbird Yes. At first he was very catholic and went to church every sunday. But then he began to learn about other religions and believed in his own spirituality (he was a lot in the new age stuff in the 70's).
Can you tell us what this piece of art is that is pictured?

it's by Salvador Dalí - I think it's called "DNA".

Was Stockhausen religious?

I think so, yes. Not in a conventional sense, but apparently he did believe in a deity.
