This 3 week old pup was carried by her mother far away from the other 3 pups, and placed out in the hot August sun to die. I happened to see her and put her back with her brothers and sisters. The next day, I noticed that she was laying out in the open, away from the others, and she didn't look well. It was 1 o'clock in the morning and I was coming in from milking. I picked her up and she was limp as a dishrag and I felt something hard and strange on her belly, so I brought her in to examine her.

When I looked at her under good light, I found a huge hole in her belly and I could see the worms moving around inside. I pulled them out of her with tweezers, and washed out the wound with dilute peroxide, then gave her some fresh, warm goat milk. She was totally dehydrated because her mother was not feeding her. I had to feed her with a dropper every couple of hours and she was still screaming in pain and couldn't sleep. I examined her all over and found 3 other sites where worm eggs had been laid on her skin. They were literally eating her alive. I put ora-jell topical pain reliever into the wounds and on the areas where the worm eggs were hatching and she immediately was able to fall into a deep sleep, and sleep long, and without pain.

She was as near death as any animal I have ever seen, however, after a couple of weeks of intensive feeding and continuous care, she recovered completely, and is living a carefree life with her siblings.

December 7: all 4 pups went to live with their new family together. I really enjoyed these pups, they were happy, friendly, good natured pups and will be good livestock guard dogs.

  • can i ask why you didn't take the dog to the vet...?

  • @jualkyn - if you read the story below the vid, you would know why: 1. it was one oclock in the morning when I found her problem, 2. she would have been dead in a few hours, if I had not treated her, 3. I do not pay huge sums of money to other people to do what I can do.

  • *cough cough* ever heard of a virginia?

  • @xXxmissKarlaxXx - cough, cough? No, never heard of a "virginia". Whats that?

  • That puppy is either a Kuvasz or a samoyed. It looks like a Kuvasz to me, because my neighbor has a pup about the same size. She isnt full grown though.

  • @happylilly789 - Great Pyrenees

  • @JRYL19 - How about the word; 1:30 in the morning, and exhausted, past my bedtime, and brain barely working, and a life and death situation, and have to do it now or she will be dead by next morning? Got the picture?

  • THANKYOU. THANKYOU FOR TAKING CARE of the puppy <3

  • Thank you for taking care of this poor baby. I'm glad the puppy is doing better.

  • NOT ONLY WAS SHE A "GREAT" PYRENNES, SHE WAS A "GOOD" PYRENNES..!! I'VE HAD A FEW OF THESE DOGS, AND THEIR GOOD NATURED AND TRUSTING SPIRIT IS EXEMPLIFIED HERE..!! AS A YOUTH I WAS INVOLVED IN THE 4-H CLUB OF AMERICA, LATER A RANGER INSTRUCTOR/PHYSICIANS ASSISTANT AND PARAMEDIC FOR 30 YEARS, AND I'M ABLE TO PROVIDE SIMILIAR CARE TO MY ANIMALS..!! I KNOW MY BOUNDARIES, AND MY VET DOES ALSO, AND I WON'T HESITATE TO TAKE THEM TO HIM WHEN NEEDED.!! OUTSTANDING JOB LADY, OUTSTANDING..!! HOO-AHH..!

  • I WANT ALL OF THEM :(

  • What a sweet little girl. Such pretty dogs. Those could be screw worms, which tend to associate with livestock. They can kill a sheep or a dog in as little as five days. I applaud you self suficiency. Vets and doctors aren't magical beings. They are PEOPLE, who happened to go to a glorified trade-school. They don't create knowledge, they parrot back what they learned, which may not even be right.

  • Good job. vets take to long to sign and register there crap, you did a good job saving the puppy

  • @Swecan76 Some worms eat living flesh (mango worms, botfly, and some others).

But you are mainly right and medicine worm are awesome and not used often enough IMO.

    Have a good one Swecan76 ;)
