Tiger Musky Bites my Hand

The bite is around 1:10. At the end I measure and hold up the fish. I would have cut it up so you didn't need to watch the whole thing, but I wanted to show that everything is real and I didn't just clip videos together

took too long fort the release though... seems like when i watch these release videos i took from this season, most of my releases are taking too long. last 6 i have caught on tape are under a minute thirty, a few less than a minute, which is tough to do... the swallow jobs are the worst... trying to cut 6 hook tines out of a toothy pissed off fish in a minutes time is something i have not yet mastered.. i'm getting there, though

@kidrockfish, easy pal I was just offering a suggestion based on what works for me. I don't hold the fish vertically out of the water. The gills are safe when done properly. That fish couldn't swim away because the angler (you?) was pulling the fish towards him using the line. I hope some of those 81 muskies lived.

grabbing a fish by the gill plates, that has swallowed the lure, and requires bolt cutting out 6 hook tines, is only adding to the chances that you are going to have a unsuccessful release. holding a fish upright by one gill plate is not a natural way to support its body weight, and if they thrash while doing this , usually causes fatal gill bleeding.. resulting in death.. hooked outside of the mouth, probably ok, but swallow jobs not for me. i keep the stressed fish in the h20

did you watch the video? how many of these muskies you are catching face the pliers and your hand in the net, and lunge out of the net? i caught 81 muskies in a 2 1/2 month stretch last year, and i have hours and hours of releaseson hd video, including a few normal "accidental" grazings. all the muskies i catch try to swim away from you in the net during hook removal, and do not normally do what this crazy little tiger did.. did it bite me? maybe , maybe not, but was crazy

I've caught a boatload of Muskie and Pike over the last few years and my approach is almost always the same. Tire them out, bring 'em to the boat, grab the gill-plate nice and easy and secure the fish. I think that's the one thing you could add to your program that would improve the time (and frustration). The muskie didn't bite you by the way, you got accidentally grazed. I've had a few of those battle wounds, but never seen a muskie try to bite a person.

it may have been awhile to release her back.....but you kept it in the water...and not out for long...great job...now get some stitches... :)

Nice fish man! Totally swallowed your rig. Makes it hard to be gentle with the release doesn't it? Hog looked like he was still hungry and wanted a little man flesh too. Lol. Always thought the gloves were kinda for chicks. I may buy a pair now. :)
