A Rehoboth mother accused of beating her 2-year-old son to death is being held without bail.
Kim Peno was arraigned today on a murder charge in Taunton District Court. The judge ordered a psychiatric evaluation.
Authorities say her son, Timothy Peno died Friday, one day after being brought to a hospital with beating injuries that authorities say were inflicted by his mother.
Police say the child's father went to the Seekonk police department just after midnight Thursday seeking assistance for the boy. The toddler was taken to Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence.
Peno's lawyer Robert Sinsheimer says his client has mental health issues.
State child welfare officials say the agency was involved with the family in the past, but the case was closed after service goals were met.
Peno also has a 1-year-old child, who is now in state custody.
