Finally all the 16 Altums are togther in the big tank now. They have settled really well, adding the extra 6 to the original 10 has helped thier confidence and helped them relax alot. The water params are the same as before. The growth has slowed done but I think that is due to the fact that Im not feeding so heavily now they are in a decorated tank. The bodysize is about 3.5" now. Food wise they are getting a mixture of frozen food, granules and flake and Ive started putting in live daphnia and brineshrimp.

  • Hello, no secret, good water with low pH, very soft and very well oxygenated. Make sure you buy very good healthy stock to start with, that is the biggest key to success.

  • Hello, its all oak or beech, I find broken of branches in the woods and soak it for a couple of months before putting it in the tank. This is the perfect time of year to collect wood as there is less sap in the trees, if the wood still has leaves on it then I leave out in the garden for a year before soaking it and using it. Hope that helps.

  • Thanks for the comments. My experience is that they are harder to keep than Wild Discus and Apistogrammas, but that is just my personal experience. The most difficult part in at the beginning, if you can get them through the first few months then it becomes much easier.

    Awesomo84 why not Angelfish?

  • These are wild caught Altums and they were imported by David Lai at Lai Aquatics International. He gets regular shipments during June, July and August.

  • nice setup and beautiful altums. I never have a lot of luck with wild caught altums so what's your secret? What is the current PH you keep them in?

  • What kind of wood did you use? Im in the progress of making another biotope-ish tank and i dont want to spend a fortune on red moor, etc. and IMO your setup looks more realistic than it would have with red moor/mangrove.

  • are they much more dificult to manetin than discus or apistogrammas? And how are them with outher fish?

    Just beautifull! Congrats

  • @Razer2007Modder alright well every one has his thing :)

  • @AweSomo84 These aren't just Angelfish - it's the Altum angelfish. One of the most beautiful and hardest freshwater fish to keep.

  • nice tank but why angelfish i dont get it
