This was my Final Major Project from ND Multimedia, completed July 2007.

Created in Flash, I adapted half the original Roald Dahl book (Page-wise, at least) to just under two minutes; complete with my own soundtrack and character designs.

There were designs for the Mugglewump Monkeys and the Roly Poly Bird that I didn't really use, as I planned to adapt the whole book -- maybe a project that will get done, since I could do so much better than this, it was a learning exercise in and of itself, really.

Nonetheless, I think creating something like this before I've even started a real animation course was something pretty special, even though the only bit in this I still stand by is Mr. Twit ascending the ladder up the tree.

---------------

Also, if you don't get this, or understand it; take some time out to maybe read the original book. Or something. Please, don't leave me comments with "wtf" or whatever. Cheers.

  • This was a big FAVE of my children's when they were little. Dahl has an amazing insight into the Human Condition. You become your thoughts, they create your reality. The Twits were horrible nasty unpleasant human beings and what they thought and how they felt manifested itself on their appearances - they hated children, animals, and the whole world basically. We always used to cheer at the end when they got glue on their heads and got stuck and died. Great book for little and big children.

  • @Thereisonlythemoment One of my favourites, too. :)

Disappointingly, I didn't have the time (this being a college project) to animate the rest of the book. It was certainly competed in screenplay form; and voice-acted; and storyboarded. Character designs for the Mugglewump Monkeys and Roly-Poly Bird were all done. Just plain ran out of available time.

One day, I might return to the project. I'm a better artist and animator now, and could do it more justice than this. :)

  • Love the voices. Roald Dahl really made the nastiest grownups of all time. Fun to act.

The animation is very stylish. Hope the project went down well.

  • Oh, it did! I got a Distinction :)

    Thanks.

  • Good work man.

You say you made this using flash,

    how long and what version?

  • Flash 8 Professional, if memory serves me correctly.

I think this took me about two weeks to actually produce, but this isn't including the huge amount of development (Characters, backgrounds) that I did before.
