EU-US bank data deal: Attack on terror or privacy?

The U.S. is pushing the European Parliament to approve an agreement giving American officials access to EU banking data.
Washington says the move's vital to counter terrorism, but many in Europe see it as a gross invasion of privacy.

We in Europe do not live in a democratic society.

The council are unelected and far removed from ordinary people. They can pass legislation (regulations) without the agreement of elected members.

MEPs are often angry and frustrated at the way in which the council conducts it's operations.

The EU system has much in common with the old Soviet model whilst giving us the illusion of democracy.
