Benedict XVI has expressed his solidarity and nearness to those affected by the swine flu, also known as H1N1, which was declared a public emergency in Mexico on April 23rd."I wish to express my closeness and assure my prayers for the victims of the flu that is affecting Mexico and other countries," said the Holy Father on Sunday, May 3rd, following the recitation of the Regina Coeli prayer.Dear Mexican brothers, keep strong in the Lord. He will help you to overcome this difficulty. I invite you to pray with your families in this time of trial. May Our Lady of Guadalupe assist and protect us always.Having been kept informed of the developing situation, the Pope has supported the decisions of bishops in some Mexican dioceses, including the capital Mexico City, to not celebrate public Masses in order to prevent further outbreaks.
