On May 25, 2011, the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation joined City Council Member Rosie Mendez, the Bowery Alliance of Neighbors, the Historic Districts Council, and other community groups to mourn the loss of 35 Cooper Square--an 1825 federal house on the Bowery--and called upon the City to do a better job of protecting the fragile historic resources on the Bowery and elsewhere in the East Village.
