This is a classic film and has so much going on...although its not directly based on any of Kafkas short stories or novels it draws quite freely from themes and characters running through them and it is possibly the most faithful interpretation of Kafka I have seen in that it captures the mood of his work so perfectly. One thing that has always intrigued me. What is going on with Murnau trying to touch Kafka? Is it sexual? Is he simply trying to connect? Does he feel paternal? Strange.

Jeremy Irons is such a great actor, and he looks a bit like H. P. Lovecraft. if there ever was a person suit to play Lovecraft in an biopic of sorts, then that's him. And I love this movie too

@rabidhouseguest this is actually the most awesome. I like the way it has color inside the mansion only. And everywhere else is black and white. It must mean something, if not...it's still awesome.

kafka is a huge strong man in this movie. maybe he represents the "superman' of nietzsche's world.

watch the entire film. this section is probably the most unimpressive of the entire film. the black and white part is that makes it a good film, in my opinion.

It is. Check out the Japanese and German releases; they both have English audio.
