Citizens express dismay at plans by the TLTI municipal council to erect new, centralized facilities for the township services. Council are not considering much less costly options and are possibly exposing 9000 taxpayers to the risk of substantial tax increases. Citizen submissions of concern have gone unanswered.

  • Council has said that taxes should not rise as a result of this $3 million shortfall in funds. Nor have they told us the truth that the Garages are contaminated with oil and will NOT be sold at a profit. It simply costs too much clean, over $300,000 for each Garage/Station multiplied by four. It will takke HUGE tax increases spread over a few years to replenish this $3million MINIMUM shortfall. Council is filled with untruthfulness.

  • As I said, twice now, just a TAXPAYER. Read that again, just so you understand.

Ha Ha, .....TIARA.....that explains everything, bye bye.

  • All municipal politicians want to build on a grand scale: skydome,KROC center; Montreal olympic stadium;etc. They alwaysrun over budget, leaving staggering long-term debt. Council is not entirely truthful, publicly as to ongoing maintenance costs of existing buildings. Nor of inability to sell old toxic garages.Try and buy it yourself without liability ! They are worthless unless cleaned of oil. That is a hidden COST. We could add on to exisitng offices, at less cost. A case will be built.

  • It is you that cannot read. The world economy has changed for the worse since this process began. You ignore this fact, like Council. If you are not a councillor, you are certainly partisan. An employee ? We want to see the facts, and not the fantasies of council. Court action would get to the bottom of this. No way does this complex offer a new vision: a stable tax base offers hope. Proof of taxes;14% hike already. Join TIARA and talk to residents about assessments. They are unsustainable.

  • Obviously, zrnifdr, you CANNOT read, I stated, I am not a council member, just a taxpayer. This is exactly what I am talking about. You people only read what you want, not ALL the facts. By the way, you didn't build much of a case. Also, show me proof of this "huge tax increase" that you speak of. I guess if they increased taxes to improve YOUR road, that would be ok? OH ya, that would also be MY taxes. All in all, at the end of the day, this building is going through, so I guess MAJORITY RULES.

  • You were NOT voted in to spend untold millions. Like the guy in the paper said, you are accountable. Since this complex thing started in the past year we have had a world-wide DEPRESSION, GM BANKRUPT, FED GOVT spending BILLIONS to keep nation afloat, and this WILL LEAD to TAX INCREASES for all. ENOUGH TAX INCREASES ! Building a new Complex is NOT stimulus. Driving me out of my home with taxes IS KILLING US ALL. VANITY. THE COMPLEX IS ONLY VANITY.

  • My question to all the naysayers is this...what exactly would you do if you were on council? Come on build your case. Faced with buildings that do not meet current OHSA rules, what are YOUR options? By the way, I am not a politician, just a taxpayer would is centered and understands today's modern world. The current council was voted by MAJORITY, meaning that most the ratepayers voted for them ( just in case you don't understand ). Deal with it, its called democracy.

  • If we continue to sit on our hands & not deal with situations like our predessors, we'll be on the hook for more then just the operating cost of this new building. Things will get worse, if not your tax $ then your childrens tax $. Face it, we're not in the 60's anymore, taxes go up, if you want to continue having a great township we have to invest in it. This is the beginning to a new vision of this area, one of which i hope to see bring more residents and businesses to increase the tax base.

  • selrahcnoira - so instead of commenting on the issues at hand you prefer to deal with the situation with personal attacks? Who's childish now?

the fact is the building is needed, if the previous Councillors and grandfathers had the brains to put money aside for the future growth/upgrades to our buildings we would not be in this position. All municipalities are facing the same issues, look at kemptvilles complex, bridge collapse in quebec, its time to invest in infrastructure and not just rds

  • breezie1231 must be a crooked politician himself....and not too bright a one at that
