10c. A Dance of Fairies

Helen Parker, soprano

The Scholars Baroque Ensemble
(Artistic coordinator: David van Asch)

Recorded in November 1992

Pitch: A = 415 Hz
___

The score of the song is from 'Some Select Songs'.

I have reconstructed the score of the Dance of Fairies from the separate parts ('Violino Primo', 'Violino Secundo', 'Tennor' and 'Bassus') published in 'A Collection of Airs'. The bars have been aligned by adding sections of empty staff. The way the notes have been aligned is a compromise between the modern way (values) and the contemporary way (balance).

  • what character sings this? I love this song and I'm auditioning for this peice soon I'd like to be the fairy queen, but I can't find any of her arias

  • It is quite difficult to sing that high. That's what we practice in a workshop because we are performing that and it works, unfortunately not quite as good as hoped! :D

  • One day I'll probably rock my daughters to sleep singing this.

(And "Go to bed, sweet Muse" by Elizabethan composer Robert Jones too).

  • Very lovely! Thank you for posting:)
