The word "systema" is a "system" for Russian. Actually, "systema" is a greek word. None of russian martial arts ever called "systema". The founder of modern russian martial arts is Aleksey Alekseevich Kadochnikov. After him, the modern russian martial arts was called "Systema Kadochnikova". One can find definition of "system" at Webster - regularly interacting or interdependent group of items forming a unified whole. That's it. Kadochnikov not only formed a unified whole, but also improved it much, based on physics laws.
The Kadochnikov system bases not on stopping, but evading and redirection of the attacker's force. Often against attacker himself.

the slow sparring game of Russian Systema is pure genius and yet so much extrem common sense I can't understand why the other martial arts view the slow sparring game as something extotic
My friend I study systema and nothing as made me as confident as this art
I wish you luck on your new jouney

Yes it really works!!! I understand Russian and he is saying that they just show it slowly to explain... You really need good body control to catch that stick if somebody hits you with full strenght.

it works. but only if the attak is slow and has no real force behind it. you could never "catch" a stick in a real fight like he does here
