Sugarhill Gang's Rapper's Delight is considered by many as the first rap ever recorded, others say it was King Tim III by The Fatback Band, well in this song from 1969 Sonia Santos raps over a heavy samba/bossa-nova beat, I know its got nothing to do with hip hop but still worth a listen, btw this is an extended remix version to the original song

yes! cats had been reciting poetry over jazz long before that......and look no further than James Brown who would lay down a repetitive rhythm, and then ''freestyle'' over it.....dopeness!
