This 2003 video shows some of what was being planned for Longhorn. This functionality never made it into the final product, now called Windows Vista

  • *lol* this was shown 2003. XGL was shown 2005 I guess. Who is the copycat now?

  • The DWM isn't bloated at all, much like the rest of vista.

Anybody who says so has no idea what it is doing, and probably has never used it :)

By powerful, I meant stable. Something which compiz sorely lacks :)

  • I saw about this pictures. It used 144 mb RAM, Windows 7 using 1gb RAM without programs. I'm happy cus it used for me 1,5-2,4 gb so far. But it can't do such things... I wish windows8 like this some way (they did better work 8 years ago than now).

  • Um... It's like ubuntu...

  • @PhazonYoshi Actually, Compiz allows effects - DCE optimises them.

    Year-old comments ftw.

  • @olfrygt2007 No-one.

Again, I have to go and smack a Windows fanboy in the face.

(Vista still copies Mac OS X - but besides, it's buggier than LH)

XGL = OpenGL in the X Windows System that's used by *nix-based systems.

DCE = An EXE file that allows smoother effects on supported chips in Windows Longhorn.

Not being a Linux fanboy - I have three Windows computers+laptops.

  • @giantsteen 4015 lab06. Haven't leaked yet.

  • WHat build is this?

  • To bad this predates compiz by three years.

Want to know why Microsoft didn't include it? It was deemed useless for professional work and was a waste of resources.

  • Just change the settings in the wobbly windows effect in compiz config. If you don't have compiz config get in in synaptic.

  • i wish this type of wobble windows was in compiz, i think it could run it

does any one knows how to make compiz plugins?

  • Welcome to Linux!
