@rboffill So what im getting to is that all of this into account. PRRs track was boned by this time period. Now, however its their fault they didnt fix it. But do what do you expect when 2 ARCH RIVALS merge? even if theres no other choice. its like merging Fire and Water, they dont mix!! plus managemtn had problems cause they didnt get along on things. everything was fuss and bother, plus New Havn was absored by them. all 3 railroads were "Worn out" by this time.
@ConrailSD70MAC Well dude heres a more logical reason to answer your comment on PRRs trackage in the 60's-70's. take into consideration that its mighty I1s, J1s and Duplexes penetrated the rails. theres a part in this trio of vids where a man shows a piece of split track in the middle. also, NYC only hauled 3/4 of gross tons miles a year then what PRR hauled in a year of gross ton miles.
@rboffill - oh please, I do blame PRR. PRR was NOT the standard railroad of the world. More like an Enron of the 20th Century. NYC's Perlman knew how a railroad was supposed to be managed. He was far ahead for his time. Closing down inferior interlocking towers along the mainlines and installing CTC. PRR's mainline was far behind in advancements. PRR kept running the Broadway Limited even when no one rode it. Waste of money on a silly image.
hell even in toledo ohio our mayor is a crooked republican who gives pay raises to his republicans and voted for sneate bill 5? ohio gov John K promised him crooked money if he votes aginst RR employees and unions and promises mor eillegals and tax breaks to republican compnays who pay low wages and no benifits. Even the yuppies from the suburbs voted for unions democrat this time becuse this would ahve effected them. See voting republican is nothing more than crooked special inrestest
Great video! Should call it.. Penn central.. mangament and share holders are republicans living well off of deffered maintence. Of course wink wink they call it operator error or unions causing problems. Of course too many actualy think the sopranos is true? The Mafia is nothing more than street corner drug dealers now. Of course the republicans hire illegal immigrants in record numbers and spend 10 billion a month on war and tax breaks for republican small business benifits low wages
@Nathanrailfan Thats not entirely true. Conrail was actually formed in 1974, but became a true operating railroad in 1976. The really BIG contributing factor in Penn Central's wreck was good ole Ted Kennedy forcing PC to include the New Haven railroad in the PRR + NYC merger. That's a fact.

NYC track was way better than PRR. PRR routes were crap. PRR was the principle cause of PC's failure.
