I remember seeing Joplin at McGaw Hall, Northwestern University in Illinois back in the late 60's; I was five feet away from the waist-high stage and that tiny woman just blew me away with her voice! After her concert she squatted down on the edge of the stage and started shaking the hands of those people right in front of her. As she shook my hand, she said 'Thanks for comin' tonight, darlin'. The woman not only had a phenomenal voice, she had a certain charisma that just drew you to her.

Probably because Janis died of a drug overdose and had a pretty raunchy reputation. Doesn't matter to me; she had one of those voices that's very rare!
