The problem is centralized planning is very common in the US. Have you ever had a job with any mid-sized to large corporation? Then you have worked in the most the most centralized tyranny our society can produce.

I suppose the analogy in the corporatist example would be "Its like not going on a road trip because some else has you do one thing over and over again." Not much fun, eh?
