Its something like blowing through a paper. But leaf is more resilient to water and air. In fact there are many countries in Asia that has similar leaf blowing music. So far i know Malaysia, China and some middle east countries has them.

Ahhh, always the Butterfly Lovers Suite!! In three thousand years of cultural endeavour, have amateur Chinese musicians never learnt to play anything else? And to think that used to be one of my favourite pieces of Erhu tunemanship.
