Romeo, a horse, is handed brushes by artist Cheryl Ward as he paints on canvas with a brush in his mouth. He's free to come and go as he pleases and is not restrained in any way. Painting is always his choice. Read the rest of his story at http://paintinghorse.com/

  • Intersting.. but doesn't seem very natural.

  • To me 'painting' may not be natural to a horse, but the use of their mouth to manipulate objects to create a change, like shaking dirt loose from grass roots, or removing moss from a branch, or grooming another horse, is something innate to their design. I believe that to encourage a horse to use its mouth and hooves to affect a difference in their environment has given them a sense of mastery over their world that has been lost due to domesticity. Painting allows them to regain this mastery.

  • awesome ^.^ the horse seems to be on a start to either impressionist painting or abstract art or both ~.^ lol

    great job ^.^

  • cool! that horse is better artist then me! :D

  • This is super cool. What a patient horse you have!! Or is just the treats talking?

From an artistic perspective, was wondering at what point you decide to finish? Of course I'm shooting my mouth off as I haven't visited your website first, however I'd like to say that as an artist I like the early stages the best and would have removed the canvas at around :24.

  • That horse must love you a lot to do that for you!

  • oh ok well when I look at it from your angle, it seems to make more sense now. I suppose in todays world there are many unnatural things that we make horses do, so now this seems quite harmless and proberally quite fun!

  • That's some awesome horse enrichment right there! :D I've never seen a horse that painted. Elephants and apes, but never a horse! That's pretty cool :3
