Lise Lindstrom made her Metropolitan Opera debut in the role of Turandot October 28, 2009. This small video contains a section of "The Riddles". She's brilliant!
This is a live recording!!!! WHAT do you people want??? Judge it on face value: and then you'll admit that this is fantastic! (you haven't actually heard T's battling with this music!)
It's impressive, but does sound a bit unhealthy. Either she'll relax into it, and realise she doesn't need to make so much effort, or she'll be a bit knackered in a couple of years.
@MrSkylark1 I heard Lindstrom in this role last night. She does push her voice, has an unpleasant quality in her vibrato, has some pitch problems, and has a voice that almost completely drops out at the bottom of her lower register when heard in the theater live. She might have had a bad night, but somehow after listenig to this video, I don't think so.
@MrSkylark1 Lawrence and Nilsson with two Ses :) are all long retired and the former is long dead. Their recording legacy might be of stunning quality, but then we are talking about the real live stage of today here - I hate it when people say someone is not as good as Callas or Nilsson or Sutherland or Freni or whoever because unless you can take these sopranos back from the dead to sing tomorrow night, leave the stage to today's sopranos please, there is nothing we can do about it.

@MrSkylark1 After hearing Lindstrom...and Sylvie Valayre a year ago, along with others, I agree wholeheartedly.

Anyone is permitted to perform today. It is a comedy.
