  • This video is classic for 1 reason.

At the very end, off in the distance, is the now demolished, THUNDER BOLT ROLLERCOASTER! Pictures of the classic are very hard to find! If you search you will find some good ones but there aren't many. Even though you really can't see it too clearly in this video, it's there and that's important. also in the same scene, is the also demolished JUMBO JET.

  • thanks for posting.

  • @FIGHTSANDARGUMENTS Me too!!!

  • @Petpatrol2 all city hall did was get someone to but the area to open something up. Think Bloomberg cares about opening an amusement park? With all the various problems in NYC, opening an amusement park is the last thing they could care about. The area was bought by the Zamperlla family and they just put a couple of rides there.Whooppie do! The past was much better than the present.

  • @datkoolbrutha I didn't say it's better than what it was ages ago. But we can't turn the wheel back to the 40's before today's giant amusement parks with 400ft tall rollercoasters existed and Coney Island was THE place to hang out. But it IS better than what was there only a couple of years ago which is a bunch of run down, closed, poor looking rides...THAT's when they feared Coney Ilsand might close and THAT's when City hall they decided to replace it with new, better rides.

  • @Petpatrol2 What's in place now could never replace what was originally there. The days of what Coney Island origially was, is long gone. The park that's there now is now way better than what was once there. And anyone who remembers the original Coney Island will tell you that.

  • @datkoolbrutha I would just like to post a follow up comment to yours to show that Bloomberg was not full of talk, and a better amusement park was, in fact, built in it's place :)

  • What everyone see here is the last memories of Coney Island cuz today, only the WonderWheel, the Cyclone, and a few other rides are the only things left. And the person who posted this video, please cherish this video cuz nobody here in the NYC knows what will happen in the near future.Promises were made to put a better amusement park, but it's all talk. And Mayor Bloomberg is doing nothing about saving what is clearly a landmark amusement park.

  • Most of Coney Island is still operating, barely if you ask me.After Astroland shut it's doors forever, nobody knows what will happen. They say a better amusement park is coming, but I think it will be condos that will go up in place. There's some small amusment company in it's place now called Dreamland.I just hope that Coney Island,as well as Deno's WonderWheel park will remain. But one thing that will stay forever in Coney Island,is the Original Nathan's.

  • im pretty sure thats the ride that the people are riding in Cloverfield (the movie) in the begining and end
