On July 29 the Marine Corps hosted a media event at NAS PaxRiver to demonstrate the capabilities of the new F-35B Joint Strike Fighter. They flew us there from the Pentagon helipad and back aboard an MV-22 Osprey. The Osprey is a tiltrotor aircraft can take off like a helicopter, but transition into forward flight like a plane and achieve speeds of about 300 miles an hour. This is a video of our final approach into the DC area that I shot from the rear ramp of the aircraft. The audio is blown, but you may recognize several prominent Washington D.C. landmarks.
At the following time codes you see:
1:18 -- The Jefferson Memorial.
1:37 -- The Washington Monument comes into frame.
1:45 -- The Lincoln Memorial.
2:17 -- The final descent to the Pentagon helipad begins with the Osprey transitioning from "plane" mode to "helicopter" mode.
3:00 -- The Pentagon comes into frame as the Osprey rotates for the final landing.
3:30 -- Touchdown.
