Wouldn't the air still go to your lungs, then blood, and so on, before reaching the brain? So it would still be dispersed evenly, there would just be less air to disperse.

@fntime I was responding to VamLoveAndKisses's comment. I was using an analogy. The progress I've had in calming my mind over the last few years indicates to me that I know something of what I speak. : )

You either know something I don't, or you don't

Alternative nasal breathing works, but tuning
out someone, doesn't make sense to me.

True, but you're still changing "who" you listen to. Like if someone on your Right is talking to you, and so is someone on your Left, if you take steps to tune out one of them, you will learn more from the other than if you let them both jabber away. Know what I mean?

Surely it is just cutting off some of the air supply to the right hemosphere of you brain. So you are just diming the creative side and the logical side seems to be more in tune but really is just the same as always.
