Emil Zrihan - Chant for Rabbi Yaakov AbuHatzera (1790-1880) also known as Abir Yaakov, grandfather of the Baba Sali. Born in Tafilelat, Marocco he was community chief Rabbi and chanter. He was keen to make aliya and settle in Israel but pleaded 5 times by the community to stay. on the 6th he persuaded them his son will stay and replace him. he made the journey with his family through algeria, lybia & Alexandria egypt, where he fell ill and was buried in Damanhur, which is considered by some as a holy site. Part of his family returned to Marocco and part continued on and joined the jews of Gaza. Later on they reunited and emigrated from Marocco and gaza to north Israel (mostly today in Ashdod & Naharia) and a small part stayed on in Gaza. Abir Yaakov wrote 12 books of torah commentary.

  • Years ago a friend lent me a tape with these songs in honor of Rabbi Yaakov AbuChatzeira. I've yearned to hear them again. Thank G-d I found them on You Tube. I'm happy to share them know with others.
